The Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors is searching for one deserving individual or non-profit organization to receive a "Not-So-Extreme" Makeover.

The program is a take-off of the ABC reality show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," which provides extensive home renovations for deserving families. The show built a new home for a family in Stagecoach last year.

"It is important for us to give back to the community, especially in these challenging times," said Joan Zadny, president of Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors. "We should look at this economic downturn as an opportunity to help others, so together we can generate positive experiences and outcomes."

The scaled-down local version sponsored by the association will do limited repairs and retrofits that do not require a building permit or major expenses, according to an association press release.

Recipients must live in Carson, Douglas, Churchill or Lyon counties, excluding Fernley.

Those wanting to apply should send in a one-page letter describing their unique challenges and what small improvements would make a significant difference in their homes or non-profit businesses.

Send letters to "Not-So-Extreme Makeover" c/o Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors, 300 S. Curry St., Carson City, NV 89703.

The deadline is March 31, and a selection will be made by April 30.

A group of volunteers from the association will donate a combination of their time, resources and money to purchase supplies. They are also seeking contractors and suppliers who would like to participate.

Those interested should call 885-7200 for information.
