Excited for Jesus will hold a celebration for its one-year anniversary at 4 p.m. today. The church is at 480 Clear Creek Ave. in south Carson City.

The church will celebrate with a free dinner, and distribute clothing to those in need. A spirit-filled message will be given at 6 p.m.

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community celebrates Lenten season beginning on Ash Wednesday with Masses at 7 and 8:30 a.m., 12:15, 5:30 and 7 p.m.

Students of St. Teresa School will attend the 8:30 a.m. Mass; the 5:30 p.m. Mass will be bilingual and the 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated in Spanish.

The Women's Society of St. Teresa's is providing soup and salad at 6 p.m. beginning Feb. 27, the first day of Lent, extending through Friday, April 3. Donations are appreciated for the light supper available prior to attending a presentation of the Stations of the Cross.

The Women's Society is looking for new members to keep the organization vibrant and dynamic. Membership is flexible and participation can be accommodated to fit the individual's needs.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 5335 Snyder Ave., will host Lenten Fridays from Feb. 27 until April 10, from 5:30-6:45 p.m.

Father Jim Setelik will make pizzas, which will be meatless, for Lenten Friday suppers with the help of the St. Benedict Society and Corpus Christi Catholic Youth Group.

Cost is $9 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-12 and 5-younger are free. Stations of the Cross will be presented after supper, and is open to the public.

Proceeds go toward furnishings for the new church on North Sunridge Drive.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 305 N. Minnesota St., will begin Children and Family weekly service at 11:30 a.m. March 1.

The 45-minute service will include Godly Play stories, prayers directly from the people, young and old alike, special offerings, Eucharist, simply songs and children and youth participants.

St. Peter's youth group will meet right after the conclusion of the service, around 12:15 p.m. and will include food. The church plans to hold this weekly service at 11:30 at least through Lent.

Community-wide prayer service "Journey to the Cross," presented by Mel Kennedy at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 4 at St. Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

The free event combines biblical and traditional stories that recreate the journey of Christ to the cross, inspirational songs and contemplative meditations and slides.

The one-hour stations of the cross service includes Nicole Melsheimer and Barbara Shields. A soup supper will be held after the service. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.
