Southbound lane of Roop Street to be closed

The southbound lane of Roop Street between Highway 50 and Long Street will be closed Saturday, Feb. 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to relocate utilities for the Stewart Street extension. The $5.6 million extension will eventually run about two miles from Carson Street until it connects with Roop Street just past Dan Street. It is expected to be finished in the fall.

Regional dance competition

"Cats" to be performed

Carson Performing Arts performs the Broadway musical, "Cats", 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 27 and April 3; Saturday, March 28 and April 4; and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 29 and April 5, at Bob Boldrick Theatre, Carson Community Center, 851 E. AARP offers free tax preparation for seniors

AARP will offer free tax preparation for seniors. Taxpayers wanting their taxes prepared and electronically filed for free do not have to be AARP members or any specific minimum age. Through April 15, representatives will be at the Fernley Senior Center, 1170 W. Newland Drive, 9 a.m.-noon, Thursday; appointments are required. For an appointment and information, call 575-3370.
