Northstar-at-Tahoe is hosting a snowshoe race series this winter. The next race is Jan. 11 at 11:30 a.m. with a 5k and 10k race, as well as races for kids.
"It's a totally fun change of pace," said Julie Young, the director of Northstar-at-Tahoe Cross Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center.
The season culminates with a half-marathon from Tahoe City to Northstar on Jan. 25, which is part of the Tahoe Rim Tour race.

All events take place at the Cross-Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center. Get there from the top of the gondola.

Snowshoe Running Clinic:

The clinic will be hosted by Julie Young, a former U.S. National Team Cyclist, 2008 winner of Billy Dutton Uphill Snowshoe Race, winner of the 2008 Marin Headlands 50K, winner and record holder of the 2008 Tougher than Granite Trail Half Marathon.
The Clinic will include discussions on training tips, clothing, managing energy and fueling your body. Core fundamentals and technique for running on groomed trails, fresh snow, running in changing conditions, transitioning from groomers to fresh snow, and running hills will also be covered.
Snowshoe rentals including performance snowshoes will be available for rent. Call the Northstar Resort Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe Center at 530-562-3270 for information and reservations.
Please arrive to mid-mountain early to make sure all equipment needs are taken care of prior to the clinic.
Cost is $25 and includes cross-country trail pass for the day and instruction.
