Four individuals and three organizations have been named recipients of this year's Governor's Arts Awards.
Dr. James Winn of Reno has been named for Excellence in the Arts. He is a pianist with an international reputation who has performed in solo, chamber and orchestral concerts throughout Nevada.
He is joined by Doug Groves of Wellington who was honored for Excellence in Folk and Traditional Art and Robert and Jane Fielden of Las Vegas named for Leadership in the Arts.
Groves is an artist in rawhide braiding, a dedicated teacher and regular participant in the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko where he shares his skills in workshops and demonstrations.
The Fieldens have been involved in arts education, city beautification projects and other civic programs.
The Las Vegas Youth Orchestra was honored for Leadership in Arts Education.
The Reno Philharmonic Association in Reno was honored for Leadership in the Arts Organizations.
The Espitona Group in Reno was honored for Patronage in the Arts. The group has raised millions of dollars for arts organizations in Nevada, particularly in the Truckee Meadows.
This is the 29th year the awards have been presented. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, March 5 at the Siena Hotel Spa Casino in Reno. Information is available at the Nevada Arts Council Office, 687-6680.
