Nevada Appeal Staff Report
The Carson Senators ski and snowboard team started out its season with a win over North Valleys Thursday at Mt. Rose.
While the Senators snowboard team will be without any competition in the near future (it currently fields the only four boarders in Northern Nevada), the boys ski team took a 134-54 victory and the girls won 124-65.
"It was really windy," Carson coach Adrienne Garbiel said. "The gusts hit 90 mph. They were shutting down chair lifts intermittently. It was an icy, fast course, which was great for race conditions, except for the wind."
Carson senior Spencer Brinson led the way for the boys, who took four of the top five spots. Brinson finished with a combined time of 60.55 seconds, followed by Taylor Phillips (68.63), Kurt Anderson (70.02) and Clay Hollett (70.48).
Jordan Dubron (72.67) led the Panthers, finishing in fifth place.
Carson's Cameron Childers (73.2) finished sixth and Nik Marsh (73.63) seventh.
Freshman Katherine Fulwider blew away the girls' field and led Carson with a combined time of 64.02. Danielle Beasom (81.1) finished second and Hannah Shaw (83.61) third for the Senators.
Jacquline Stone led North Valleys with a fourth-place finish time of 84.13. Teammate Alexandra Davis (86.39) was fifth.
Carson's Katie McFarren finished sixth with a time of 87.57.
