Sterling passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and other family members at the age of 90.

He was born in Cave City, Ky. to Sterling and Pauline Day. As a youngster he helped his father in his clothing stores. This laid the carpet for his career as a salesman.

He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the cruiser U.S.S. Concord for seven years during World War II. In 1944 he met and married Margaret Elizabeth Sullivan. They had four boys: Sterling Paul, Timothy Walton, Michael Traboe and Daniel Alklen. This marriage didn't last. Sterling took care of these boys by himself for five years. In 1962 he met and married Dorothy Havens. She considered the boys as her own. Dorothy passed in 2002.

Sterling had unconditional love for his family. He loved life and saw himself in everyone. He loved doing things for others. He was a member of the Gideon's for many years.

In 1980 Sterling retired. He loved Carson City so much that he decided to spend the rest of his life here.

Sterling is survived by his son Timothy; his daughters-in-law Shayne, Beth, Cheri and Norma; his foster daughter Donna; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at the First Christian Church, 2211 Mouton Drive, Carson City.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
