Silver State High School, Carson City's public charter high school, will present a showcase of its students' talents Friday at the Carson Airport.

"The students and staff had this terrific idea to turn the Airport's old restaurant into a coffee house for one night," said Principal Steve Knight. "You can't beat the setting and views right there next to the tarmac."

The school, now in its fifth year of operation, has never had a talent show before, but English teacher Kelsey Bushman doesn'0t think that's a problem.

"These kids are really talented, and we hope the venue will help calm any nervousness they might have performing live," she said.

The coffee house style doesn't mean the show is all acoustic, explained technology teacher Brett Caron.

"We have the full range of performers, from a cappella singers to fully amped guitar rockers," he said.

The show, which will include experienced performers and those who have never been in front of an audience before, starts at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Limited refreshments will be provided, and donations for the Brewery Arts Center's BAC Stage Kids program will be accepted.
