Jeff Moser gives an update on the Ash Canyon trails on his blog bikecarson.com.
"If you are longing for an Ash Canyon ride, wait no longer. If you stick to lower trails or trails with a southern exposure that get full sun, you will find good riding.
"We've been riding up Ash Canyon road past the water towers this week, and it gets a little better each day. We've been stopping at Deer Run, but it's possible that the Four Day trail may be open too. There is much traction to be had, and ripping down the Jackrabbit Trail just doesn't get any better than this.
"One place to stay off is the north/south section of the Postal Route. It is still really wet because of it's eastern exposure, and is nothing but a quagmire. After finishing the long straightaway on the Postal Route that heads east, turn north on the road that takes you over to Vicee Canyon before dropping into the final stretch of the Postal Route. It's still a little muddy, but at least it's a wide road. Jump back on Jackrabbit at the bottom of the road."

Fleet Feet is hosting the second in its winter race series 8-10 a.m. Saturday in Ash Canyon.
The 8K race will begin at the south end of the Western Nevada College campus.
The course starts with a nearly 650-foot climb on winding singletrack into the heart of ash creek canyon. From the high point between mile two and three, you will descend onto ash creek road briefly.
From there, you get to hit the singletrack back down the canyon along the creek. This finishes the loop, and you retrace a mile of the course back down to the start/finish line.
Is there any better reason to run other than beer?
Fleet Feet Sports and Brugo's Pizza and Bistro are teaming up to bring a little spirit to the new year.
Meet at fleet feet at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday for a 6 p.m. run. All levels are welcome.
This week will be a short 5k (ish) run/walk to the southwest of the shop that will finish at Brugo's Pizza and Bistro, across the parking lot from Fleet Feet for half-price beer.
