Barton Bristol scored a team-high 17 points as Yerington took a 75-65 home victory over the Spartans. Bristol was 5-of-8 from the foul line. He got help from Michael Veil, who scored 12 points and Sergio Cruz, who added 11. Cruz connected on three 3-pointers. Yerington imnproved to 12-7 overall, 2-2 in league and will next travel to play Sparks on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
CARSON JV 77, FALLON 43
Carlos Carillo led the Senators attack with 20 points. He got help from Logan Philippi, who chipped in 11 points to move Carson to 13-2 overall and 6-0 in the Sierra League.
GIRLS
LOVELOCK 66, SILVER STAGE 35
Ariel Highsmith scored a team-high 13 points in a loss for the Nighthawks. Amanda Nutting added nine and Andy Pato scored five for Silver Stage, which fell to 1-11 overall, 0-5 in league.
CARSON WRESTLING TAKES SECOND IN FAIRFIELD
Just four days away from their unofficial Sierra League regular-season championship matchup with Douglas, the Senators finished in second place in the 20-team Armijo Invitational, in Fairfield, Calif.
Nick Schlager (125 pounds) and Junior Valladares (160) each took first place in their respective divisions, while Ricky Ugarte (119), Adam Welch (130), Brett Allen (145), Luke Carter (171) and Justin Barlow (215) each finished second.
Host team Armijo took the tournament with 181 1/2 points, while Carson finished with 179. Vacaville finished third with 141.
Schlager was one of three competitors named most outstanding wrestler, while Valladares was rebounding from a tough loss to Fallon's Trent de Braga.
"He learns from it and moves on," Carson coach Tim McCarthy said of Valladares.
All in all, the tournament was a success for Carson.
"Overall as a team, we are wrestling real good," McCarthy said. "It was a state tournament for us. It was a good way for us to prepare for the biggest day of the year."
That would be Wednesday, when Carson travels to Minden to take on the Tigers. the first match begins at 5:30 p.m.
