RENO " The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has a new plan to increase protection from wildfires in north central Nevada.
The BLM published a proposal in the Federal Register this week to help Eureka County build a fire station in Diamond Valley. Under the proposal, the BLM would lease and later convey about 1.25 acres of public land to the county where the fire station would be built.
BLM officials say it would significantly shorten response time to wildfires in the area.
A 45-day public comment period on the proposal extends through March 9.
