Financial fair takes place Jan. 31

The Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a Financial Preparedness Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, at the LDS meetinghouse, 411 North Saliman Road. The event features classes and exhibits focusing on finances. In addition to the classes and exhibits, attendees also are encouraged to support a food drive. There is no charge. Everyone is welcome. Sign up for soccer

Sign ups for Dayton Valley Soccer will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, Feb. 7, and Feb. 21 at Smith's Grocery Store, 2200 US Highway 50 East, Dayton for boys and girls in grades Pre-K through 8th. Registrations also may be mailed in to P. O. Box 371. It costs $65 for the first child in the family, $55 for each additional child if paid prior to Feb. 21. The season begins in March. Free tax preparation for seniors

AARP will offer free tax preparation for seniors. Taxpayers wanting their taxes prepared and electronically filed for free do not have to be AARP members or any specific minimum age. Beginning Sunday, Feb. 1 through April 15 representatives will be at the Douglas County Library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden, 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday and Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday.
