The Blue Thong Society, a women's social organization with a provocative name, is hoping to shake things up in Carson City.
The local chapter, called the Carson Valley Divas, used to have upward of 60 members two years ago.
"The ladies who organized it back then got tired, and thought it got too big, so they walked away," said current chapter president Angela Grato.
The group had an open house on Saturday to appeal to some new members.
The organization began with a group of women in Southern California as a counterpart to the Red Hat Society. They wanted a group that was more oriented to the active lifestyle of today's women, who can go out and have fun, drink their signature blue martinis, and "Fight Frump."
"How we differ from the Red Hat group, they don't support a charity, and they don't drink," said Christeen Hanson, a local chapter member. "We want to have a social club that supports charity."
The Blue Thong Society is open to women of all ages.
"It used to be for middle-aged women, but they have opened it up to anyone 21 or over, anybody who can drink a blue martini," Grato said.
The local chapter sponsors the Advocates Against Domestic Violence, raising money and donating items. They sponsored a toy drive at Christmas time in partnership with Pioneer High School and collected carloads of items for the group.
The Carson Valley Divas meet the fourth Thursday of the month at El Charro Avitia.
"We put it at El Charro because it's at the edge of town and makes it easy for people from Carson City and Carson Valley to go," Hanson said.
They are hoping to get the word out in order to build the group back up.
"We don't have any dues to be a member, we don't charge for any meetings, we let people give what they can to support our charity," Hanson said.
