Elfrieda Christina 'Fritzie' Franck
Fritzie Franck went home to the Lord on Friday, June 19, 2009. She was born on July 16, 1918, on Staten Island, N.Y, to Rudolph and Emilie Schultz Franck. She was educated on Staten Island and Manhattan, New York. She went to Alaska in 1943 as a missionary for the Moravian Church. When her term of service was ended for the church, she remained in Alaska and was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Department of Justice.
When Alaska became a state in 1959, her work as a U.S. Deputy Marshal ceased so she obtained work with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Stewart, Nev. Three years later she was appointed Postmaster in Stewart. She served in that position until 1973 when she was transferred to the Hawthorne Nevada Post Office. Retiring in 1978, she returned to Carson City and enjoyed traveling, needlepoint, candy making, playing Dominos and working puzzles.
Her parents, two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by two nieces and five nephews.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Chapter X of the PEO Sisterhood, Nevada Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters of the U.S., the Nevada Retired Postmasters Chapter of NAPUS and NARFE.
Her body has been donated to the medical school at the University of Nevada, Reno.
A service of witness to the resurrection in memory of Elfrieda will be held at 11 a.m. July 10, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church, 115 N. Division St. in Carson City.
Donations in her memory may be made to the building fund at the First Presbyterian Church, 306 West Musser St., Carson City, NV 89703.
