A fire of undetermined nature at the Kennemetal plant 10 miles north of Fallon has closed U.S. Highway 95 in both directions until further notice.

Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Joe Winchester said he was first notified of the fire at 7:55 p.m.

The highway is shut down because of smoke blowing across the road. NHP and Fallon/Churchill County Volunteer Fire Department personnel are on the scene and are waiting for Kennemetal and NDOT representatives to arrive to ascess the situation.

FVFD Fire Chief Fred Rogne said he's not sure what type of fire they have. He said that hydrocloric acid may be involved.

Highway 95 is closed at Trinity (I-80) and northbound traffic out of Fallon is being turned around. One ladder truck and one ambulance are on the scene.
