Health of our planet at stake with legislation

President Obama was elected mainly because he stood for real change. Something happened on the way to Congress, and now the energy plan they are working with is a toothless paper dragon.

Oil and coal lobbyists have weakened the bill to the point that it wouldn't require any more clean energy than we already have decided upon. It would repeal part of the Clean Air Act so that power plants can't be held accountable. The health of our planet is at stake. We can't let Congress pass this bill as a new energy bill. It's the same old thing in new clothing.

Owner lobbies supervisors to allow horse in backyard

Now that the pigs are out of the closet and the chickens out of the coop, so to speak, I would like to ask the Carson City Board of Supervisors for a waiver to keep my miniature horse in my backyard.

Standing approximately 33 inches and weighing about 220 pounds, he certainly is no larger than two 150-pound pot-bellied pigs. It certainly would save me a lot of time and money having him right here in my own backyard and not having to board him. And what fun it would be to take him for walks down the street and to go carting in the park near my home.

Since I am rarely able to attend supervisors meetings due to work constraints, I thought asking in this manner and hopefully gaining some public support for my request would be a good option. So what do you think? Should I be allowed to keep the horse in my yard?

Thanks to RSVP for the great fireworks

Thank you RSVP for a wonderful fireworks display! I think our country needs all the good things it can get now. Janice Ayres has always done a great job for Carson City. Again, thank you.

In a backhanded way, hypocrisy may be good

In a backhanded way, hypocrisy may be a good thing. Sen. John Ensign is a hypocrite because he violated his own publicly supported standards. That means he has standards.

If he were a congressional Democrat, on the other hand, his adultery would be a resume enhancer. Think Barney Frank or Ted Kennedy. No hypocrisy there.
