The new portion of freeway that connects to Fairview Drive won't open until mid- to late-September, an official said Tuesday.
Nevada Department of Transportation Spokesman Scott Magruder said the project isn't delayed, it's just that an early August opening was a bit optimistic for the $45-million project that extends the bypass two miles south from Highway 50 East.
"The workers are still within the number of working days that they were allowed. We're actually back on schedule," he said.
He said that just like the grand opening of the freeway between Lakeview Hill and Highway 50 East, there will be a fun run and bike ride on the finished project.
The state could start preliminary work by the end of the year on the final leg of the Highway 395 Carson City bypass that will connect to Highway 50 West at the base of Spooner Summit leading to Lake Tahoe.
Bridges, like those recently opened Fairview Drive and Fifth Street, also will go over the bypass at Koontz Lane and Clearview Drive.
