SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - The San Francisco 49ers have unveiled details of their proposed new stadium in Santa Clara that would seat more than 68,000 fans and have a plant-covered roof.
49ers officials and architects presented the plan Tuesday night to the Santa Clara city council.
Architects with HNTB Architecture say environmental enhancements like solar panels, high-efficiency plumbing and recycled and local building materials will make it the greenest NFL stadium ever built.
They haven't decided yet on grass or artificial turf.
Santa Clara voters will decide in 2010 if they want to spend $114 million in public money for the stadium.
The multipurpose stadium would be scheduled to open in 2014.
