RENO (AP) - Fire managers are assessing their plan of attack to tame two wildfires burning on the edge of the Sierra Nevada north of Reno.

The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center reports more than 600 firefighters are battling the blazes that broke out Wednesday afternoon and quickly consumed about 3,000 acres combined.

Officials believe the fires were sparked by a trailer with a flat tire being towed on U.S. 395.

There are no reports of threats to structures and no evacuations ordered.

The Trailer 1 fire has burned about 1,000 acres of grass, brush and juniper near Hallelujah Junction, where U.S. 395 meets California Highway 70.

A second fire, called the Red Rock fire, has consumed about 2,000 acres.

Firefighters on Thursday will be contending with temperatures near 100 degrees.
