Firefighters are battling a fire near Tower 14 of the Heavenly Mountain Resort gondola.
Firefighters from agencies including South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, Lake Valley Fire Protection District, U.S. Forest Service, and CalFire were assembling near the barn on the Van Sickle property.
Kit Bailey, fire management officer for the U.S. Forest Service, told a Tribune reporter on scene that the fire was about 10-by-10 feet in size, and as of 5:10 p.m., was not spreading.
Forest Service hand crews were marching toward the fire, which was about midway to the top of the gondola.
A helicopter had dropped at least one bucket-full of water on it.
Smoke could be seen coming from under the gondola.
This is approximately the same location as a wildfire on July 4. That fire was 20-by-20 feet and was quickly extinguished.
