NL roundup: Dodgers lose Manny's return to LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Manny Ramirez was little help for Los Angeles in his first game at Dodger Stadium since his 50-game suspension ended as Wandy Rodriguez combined with four relievers on an eight-hitter in Houston's 3-0 victory Thursday night.

Ramirez went 1 for 4 with two strikeouts while being welcomed with cheers, chants of his name and camera flashes that sparkled around the stadium.

He singled to lead off the eighth, but was erased on a double play one batter later.

Rodriguez (9-6) gave up five hits in six innings, struck out six and walked two in winning his fifth straight. The Astros have won the left-hander's last five starts and six of his last seven.

Jose Valverde, the fourth Astros reliever, earned his ninth save in 13 chances.

Humberto Quintero hit his first homer on the first pitch from Randy Wolf (4-4) with two outs in the fifth.

The left-hander allowed five hits and three runs in six-plus innings, with six strikeouts and one walk against his former team.

Rockies 10, Padres 1

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Aaron Cook pitched six solid innings, Clint Barmes hit a three-run homer and Seth Smith added a two-run shot for Colorado.

Cook (9-3) allowed one run and raised his career record against the Padres to 13-4. He gave up eight hits, walked four and struck out eight.

Barmes homered in the sixth inning, his 11th, off Mike Ekstrom to increase the Rockies' lead to 7-1. Smith homered off Ryan Webb in the eighth.

The Rockies scored at least seven runs for the fourth time in six games.

Colorado's Todd Helton had four hits, including two doubles that left him two short of becoming the 50th player in baseball history with 500.

The Padres scored their only run on Kevin Kouzmanoff's single in the first.

Chad Gaudin (4-8) allowed four runs - one earned - and four hits over five innings.

Phillies 4, Marlins 0

MIAMI (AP) - Jamie Moyer allowed one hit in seven innings, Ryan Howard became the fastest player to reach 200 homers and Philadelphia extended its winning streak to six games.

Ryan Madson and J.C. Romero pitched one perfect inning each to complete the one-hitter.

Moyer (9-6) has won all eight of his career starts in Miami, and he's 13-2 overall against the Marlins.

The 29-year-old Howard hit his 23rd homer of the season in the sixth inning to reach the 200 milestone in 658 games, fewer than any player in major league history. Ralph Kiner, previously the fastest player to reach 200, did it in 706 games.

All-Star Raul Ibanez hit two home runs, giving him 24 this season.

Chris Volstad (6-9) pitched six innings and allowed four runs, all on homers. He has given up 20 home runs this season.

Brewers 9, Reds 6

CINCINNATI (AP) - Home Run Derby winner Prince Fielder hit a three-run shot that got Milwaukee going.

Fielder connected in the third inning off Homer Bailey (1-1) to make it 3-0.

Braden Looper (8-4) went 5 1-3 innings and had three hits, including a broken-bat, RBI single that extended Milwaukee's five-run rally in the sixth. The three hits - all singles - matched his total for the season and were a career high.

Seth McClung gave up a three-run homer in the eighth to Edwin Encarnacion, who drove in four runs. Trevor Hoffman pitched the ninth for his 21st save in 23 chances.

The Reds (42-46) have dropped seven of nine, falling four games under .500 for the first time this season.

Joey Votto hit a two-run homer off Looper, who gave up seven hits and three runs. Braves 5, Mets 3

ATLANTA (AP) - Chipper Jones drove in the go-ahead run for Atlanta in the seventh inning.

The Braves broke a 3-3 tie against the New York bullpen, which gave up two runs in two innings. Atlanta relievers gave up one hit in three scoreless innings.

Pedro Feliciano (2-3) walked pinch-hitter Brooks Conrad, who advanced to third on Martin Prado's hit-and-run single to left off Bobby Parnell. Jones, a .330 career hitter against the Mets, drove in Conrad with a single to right off Parnell. Pinch-hitter Greg Norton added a run-scoring single off Pat Misch, New York's third reliever, in the eighth.

Manny Acosta (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh, Peter Moylan retired the Mets in order in the eighth and Rafael Soriano earned his 13th save.

The Braves took a 2-0 lead in the second on their first back-to-back homers of the season by Yunel Escobar and Anderson.

Cubs 6, Nationals 2

WASHINGTON (AP) - Rich Harden allowed three hits over six innings, Derrek Lee homered and Chicago spoiled the debut of Washington interim manager Jim Riggleman.

Harden (6-6), who had won only one of his previous seven starts, improved to 4-1 on the road. He allowed an unearned run, walked none and struck out seven.

The Nationals have lost seven of eight and own the majors' worst record at 26-62. Riggleman, who previously managed the Cubs, San Diego and Seattle, replaced the fired Manny Acta on Monday after serving as his bench coach the first half of the season.

Lee had three hits and Ryan Theriot drove in two runs for the Cubs, who have won three of four.

Ryan Zimmerman hit his 15th homer for Washington, a ninth-inning solo shot off Kevin Gregg.

John Lannan (6-7) gave up three runs - two earned - and seven hits over 6 2-3 innings.
