Carson City has declared a Stage 2 Water Alert and is asking residents to voluntarily stop outside irrigation through the weekend and including normal Monday non-irrigation day off. The city has had several well failures and has seen water demand increase because of the high temperatures.
In addition, the city does not have the Marlette Reservoir water available due to construction on the system. It is hoped construction will be completed in the next month to allow pumping to resume. The city has not had access to the Marlette water for 3 years due to the construction project.
Lyon County is assisting Carson by supplying some water from its Dayton-Mound House system, which was connected to the city system just last year. Carson had been providing water to Lyon previously in the year, but now will receive water from Lyon County.
It is believed that the Stage 2 Alert will allow recovery of water storage tank levels and the City can return to a normal watering routine next week.
