Grand Picnic at Treadway's Park - The Sabbath Schools of Carson and Virginia Cities, belonging to the Presbyterian Church, will have a picnic at Treadway Park. The ladies will have a lunch table with meals and ice cream for twenty-five cents. Singing and happiness will be the order of the day.

100 YEARS AGO

A kissing machine to test the wear and tear on lipstick was introduced by Max Factor, Jr. ... two pair of plastic-flesh "lips" will be brought in contact with a slight twisting motion ... used to derive a "kiss-proof" formula.

Just bear(ly) noticed - A two year old black bear was caught rummaging through trash and peeping in windows in the Kingsbury Grade area. It was tranquilized and sent back into the forest.

10 YEARS AGO

The sky was hazy and dark when John F. Kennedy, Jr. flew over the sea and lost his life. He had plans to make a daytime flight but was delayed when his sister-in-law couldn't leave work. He had tried to rely on instruments and was too inexperienced.
