LAS VEGAS (AP) - Lightweight Miguel Vasquez upset previously undefeated and world-ranked Breidis Prescott by split decision in their 10-round main event Friday night at Planet Hollywood.

The lanky, 5-foot-11 Prescott, of Miami, won the early rounds and knocked down Vasquez, of Mexico, with a left jab to the head in the first.

But Vasquez negated Prescott's height and reach edge and took advantage of the native Colombian's wild, looping punches and scored with shots up the middle. By the seventh round Prescott was bleeding from the mouth and his left eye was closing.

Vasquez won by scores of 96-93 and 95-94 on two scorecards, while Prescott was ahead 97-92 on the third judge's card.

Vasquez, at 136 pounds, improved to 25-3 with 12 knockouts. Prescott, at 137, who entered the bout ranked No. 5 by the WBA, No. 7 by the WBC, No. 11 by the IBF, and No. 12 by the WBO, dropped to 21-1 with 18 KOs.
