Carson City declared a Stage 2 Water Alert Saturday and is asking residents to voluntarily stop outside irrigation through the weekend and including normal Monday non-irrigation day off.
The city has had several well failures and has seen water demand increase because of the high temperatures, according to a press release.
In addition, the city does not have the Marlette Reservoir water available because of construction on the system. It is hoped construction will be completed in the next month to allow pumping to resume.
Lyon County is assisting Carson by supplying some water from its Dayton-Mound House system, which was connected to the city system just last year.
Residents received an automated phone call warning of the alert Saturday morning.
The city's release said a Stage 2 Alert will allow recovery of water storage tank levels, hopefully allowing a return to a normal watering next week.
