Register now for the Capital City Kids Triathlon on Saturday at the Carson Aquatic Facility. Ages 4-18 are eligible to compete. Safety helmets are required.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the triathlon begins at 8 a.m. Pre-registration is $15, or $20 the day of the event. For more information, call 887-2242.

Join Fleet Feet and Brugo's Pizza for the weekly beer run.

Runners meet at Fleet Feet every Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a casual three- mile walk/run. The run ends at Brugo's Pizza across the parking lot for half-off beer night.

Saturday: Page Meadows Hike

Enjoy the lush meadow, summer wildflowers and aspen groves as you meander along a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail suitable for all levels of hikers. This five-mile hike is relatively flat. Bring lunch or snacks. Children older than 12 years old only, and no dogs.

July 31: Eagle Lake Trail to Desolation Wilderness

Take a lollipop hike with the loop around three gems in the Desolation Wilderness: Dick's Lake, Fontanillis Lake and Upper Velma Lake. Participants should expect a steep climb, and a full-day hike. This hike is 11 miles round trip. Participants are expected to be able to hike 2 mph at altitude, bring lunch, snacks and water. No dogs.

Aug. 5: Spooner Summit to Snow Valley Peak

Panoramic views of the Lake while meandering through pines towards Snow Valley Peak. Enjoy the bare rock of Snow Valley Peak after this six-mile hike. Total distance is 12 miles out and back, children over 12 are welcome. No dogs.

Aug. 7: Carson Pass to Big Meadow

After a brief climb out of Carson pass, the first 5.5 miles cover relatively level terrain with sweeping views of Meiss Meadows and unique views of Lake Tahoe. Drop gently down to Round Lake and hopefully spotting the resident osprey fishing for his lunch. On the remaining 3.2 miles, there is a steep climb out followed by a wander through mixed coniferous forest littered with enormous volcanic leftovers. Finish with a walk across Big Meadow and back to the Trailhead. 8.6 miles, moderate, point-to-point shuttle.

Aug. 18: Lower Echo Lakes to Tamarack Lake

Explore beautiful Desolation Wilderness on this enjoyable day hike. Plan to have lunch at Tamarack Lake and we may want to hike the small loop to see Cagwin and Ralston Lakes before heading back. Total distance is 9-10 miles roundtrip. Participants must be able to hike 2 mph,. No dogs. Moderate elevation gain.

Aug. 21: Armstrong Pass to Star Lake

Star Lake is located at the base of Job's Sister, which rises dramatically from its shores. This alluring lake will take your breath away.

Views of the Crystal Range, of Lake Tahoe and of Freel Peak. This is a strenuous hike at high elevation, from 8,700 to almost 10,000 feet. Ability to hike 2 mph is required. Bring lots of water, snacks and lunch. No dogs. 14.6 miles, strenuous, out and back

Sept. 4: Kingsbury to Spooner Summit

With intermittent views of Lake Tahoe, both going and coming, the big payoff is a view of most of the lake near the halfway point.

This nearly level, open area of South Camp Peak is windswept and the view exhilarating. The hiker looks down upon Emerald Bay and scans landmark peaks around the lake.

Bring snacks, lunch, and lots of water as there are no water sources on this hike. 12 mile, moderately difficult.
