RENO (AP) - Nevada athletic director Cary Groth has been voted into the athletic hall of fame at her alma mater, Northern Illinois.
Groth spent 23 years at NIU in Dekalb, Ill., including 10 years as athletic director there before she took the same job at Nevada in 2004.
She also coached women's tennis at Northern Illinois where as a student she was a two-sport letter-winner in tennis and basketball. She was one of only three women athletic directors at NCAA Division I football schools when she first was appointed in 1994.
Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal included Groth in its list of the top 50 women's sports executives in 1998. She'll be enshrined in NIU's hall of fame at a ceremony on Oct. 30.
