(AP) - The state Board of Examiners will convene in a special meeting to consider Gov. Jim Gibbons' request for more than $500,000 to hire a "stimulus czar" and other measures to oversee the more than $2 billion in federal stimulus funds flowing into Nevada.

Gibbons' Chief of Staff Robin Reedy says the new position is needed to comply with stringent reporting requirements for the money.

The money wasn't included in the state budget, so Gibbons is asking the Legislature's Interim Finance Committee for money from its contingency fund.

Gibbons, a first-term Republican, is chairman of the Board of Examiners. Other members are Democrats Secretary of State Ross Miller and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto.

If approved Tuesday, the matter would then to the Interim Finance Committee.
