Boise State tops WAC polls; Kaepernick Offensive Player of Year

SALT LAKE CITY - As expected, Boise State was the top choice by both the media and coaches to win the 2009 Western Athletic Conference football championship.

Boise State grabbed eight of a possible nine first-place votes among the league's head coaches. In the media poll, BSU compiled 55 first-place votes and 519 points, while Nevada was second with three first-place votes and 444 points.

Fresno State 365, Louisiana Tech 360, Hawaii 275, San Jose State 263, Utah State 170, Idaho 110 and New Mexico State 104 rounded out the poll.

Nevada's Colin Kaepernick was named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 2,849 yards and 22 scores while running for 1,130 yards and 17 scores as a sophomore. In 2007, Kaepernick was the WAC's Freshman of the Year.

Boise State's Kyle Wilson was named the Defensive Player of the Year. He had five interceptions, 35 tackles and 15 passes defended last season.
