Legislative leaders emerged from their closed door session as 7 p.m. approached Monday to discuss an amendment to an Assembly bill dealing with student performance.
AB505 was amended in several ways. It instructs the system of higher education to work with the Department of Education to establish goals and benchmarks for high school students which will make sure those students are ready for college.
It requires the department to track student achievement each year and to create a model enabling the evaluation of pupil progress.
