LAS VEGAS (AP) " Nevada higher education chief Jim Rogers says the budget cuts enacted by the Legislature this session "can be managed" by the education system.
In a memo to the Board of Regents, Rogers says he does not consider the session a failure for the state education system " despite a roughly 10 percent cut in funding.
Rogers notes that far steeper cuts were proposed by Republican Gov. Jim Gibbons. He praises legislative leadership for blocking those plans.
The Nevada Legislature ended its work Monday.
Rogers says the university system will look for ways to become "more efficient and effective" and will emerge stronger from the budget crisis.
