RENO (AP) " The Nevada Department of Wildlife is teaming up with other state agencies and a working group to fight a noxious weed at a wildlife management area in scenic Washoe Valley south of Reno.

NDOW operates the nearly 2,400 acre Scripps Wildlife Management Area on the valley's east side.

State agencies and the Washoe/Pleasant Valley Cooperative Weed Management Group this month are launching a two-year, eradication program.

Two herbicides, Telar and 2-4D, will be applied by sprayer.

Officials say Telar will be used close to residential homes because it doesn't vaporize, which could harm landscaping. The other herbicide is cheaper and will be used for remaining areas.
