Trailers and dumpsters are available to Carson City homeowners near land threatened by wildfires.
The Carson City Fire Department will provide trailers and dumpsters for free to help residents get rid of flammable vegetation. These trailers or dumpsters are delivered, locked down and picked up a few days later for delivery to the landfill.
Defensible space is critical for fire suppression. Areas that have been cleared or treated can slow the rate and intensity of an advancing wildfire. The idea behind defensible space isn't necessarily to clear the area, but to reduce the flammable vegetation.
The fire department offers free wildfire threat evaluations for residents.
For more information or to request a trailer, dumpster or wildfire threat evaluation, contact the fire department's fire prevention division at 887-2210, ext. 1001.
