A six-week physical fitness challenge is being kicked of Saturday by the Carson Area Wellness Association.
Using the President's Council in Sports and Fitness, participants will be encouraged to exercise at least 30 minutes per day, five days a week.
"We're encouraging people to get out and get active," said Monica Marcinko, the center director of Carson City's Jenny Craig and member of the wellness association.
To celebrate the start of the challenge, organizers are hosting a fitness fair 2-6 p.m. Saturday at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall.
The fair will feature a fashion show of active wear from Fleet Feet and Maurice's.
Models will range in size to showcase the variety available.
"Sometimes people think they don't have active wear in their size," Marcinko said. "This will show them that's not true."
There will also be tennis and hypnosis demonstrations and a book sale. Sierra Joe's will be frying up hamburgers as well as a selection of healthier choices.
Attendees will receive a free pedometer, and children will receive free gifts as well. A variety of items will also be raffled off.
The fitness challenge will be conducted online. Participants will sign up Saturday and Marcinko will track their progress throughout the six weeks.
"It's making a pact to be more active," she said. "It's a way to get people to be accountable for their activity."
A celebration to end the challenge will be Aug. 8 and will also include raffle prizes.
Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
