RENO (AP) - The city of Reno has issued pink slips to about 90 employees who could lose their jobs July 1 unless concessions are reached with employee unions.
City Manager Donna Dreska says layoff letters were distributed Monday to give employees the required three weeks notice.
But talks with unions continue and officials are hopeful layoffs won't be necessary.
Last week, officials agreed to not lay off any workers who skip raises for the next year and let the city miss one payment to its health insurance plans.
But the city says it can only keep its promise as long as the economy doesn't get worse. Unions have until June 24 to decide on concessions.
