BOSTON (AP) - Josh Beckett allowed only an infield hit in six innings, and David Ortiz hit his third homer of the year to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 7-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
The Red Sox improved to 6-0 against the Yankees franchise for the first time since 1912, when they beat the Highlanders in 14 straight - including the first-ever game in Fenway Park.
Beckett (7-2) struck out eight and walked two before leaving with a 6-0 lead after six innings, having thrown 93 pitches. The only hit he allowed was Robinson Cano's fourth-inning grounder to the left of second baseman Dustin Pedroia.
A.J. Burnett (4-3) allowed three earned runs on five walks and five hits before leaving with two outs in the third and taking out his frustrations on a dugout watercooler.
Tigers 7, White Sox 6, 10 Innings
CHICAGO (AP) - Miguel Cabrera broke out of a slump with a solo homer in the 10th inning to lift the Tigers after they had squandered a three-run lead in th eninth.
Cabrera, who had been hitless in his last 12 at-bats, led off the 10th with a shot to left-center off White Sox reliever Scott Linebrink (2-4). It was Cabrera's 11th homer of the season.
Trailing 6-3 in the ninth, Rodney walked the first three batters he faced. Brandon Lyon came in and struck out Jermaine Dye, then he walked Jim Thome to force in a run. Paul Konerko followed with a double that tied the game and pinch-runner DeWayne Wise - the potential winning-run - was thrown out at the plate on a relay throw by shortstop Adam Everett.
After an intentional walk to A.J. Pierzynski, Lyon (2-3) struck out Gordon Beckham to end the inning. Lyon then pitched a perfect 10th to secure the win.
Indians 8, Royals 4
CLEVELAND (AP) - Mark DeRosa's grand slam off reliever Jamey Wright in the seventh inning lifted the Indians out of last place in the Central Division.
Rafael Perez (1-1) pitched two-thirds of an inning for the win.
The Indians loaded the bases off Juan Cruz (3-2) in the seventh with a fielder's choice, walk and a hit batsman. Cruz, who began the year as Kansas City's top setup man, has allowed eight earned runs over his last three innings, spanning four appearances.
Wright relieved Cruz, and DeRosa hit his second pitch into the seats in right field.
Orioles 3, Mariners 1
BALTIMORE (AP) - Rookie Brad Bergesen pitched eight innings of five-hit ball, Nolan Reimold homered and had two RBIs, and the Orioles ended a five-game losing streak.
Making his 10th start since being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on April 21, Bergesen (3-2) set career marks for fewest runs allowed and most strikeouts (six).
George Sherrill earned his 12th save despite giving up an RBI single to Jose Lopez.
Jason Vargas (2-1) allowed three runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings. It was his first loss since coming to the Mariners in an offseason trade with the New York Mets.
Angels 4, Rays 3
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Jered Weaver allowed two runs over six innings to win his third consecutive start for the Angels.
Weaver (6-2) gave up five hits, four walks and struck out six. The right-hander has been touched for four runs over 21 innings in his last three outings.
Vladimir Guerrero had an RBI single during a two-run first. Brian Fuentes pitched the ninth for his 16th save in 19 opportunties.
Ben Zobrist hit solo homer and finished with two RBIs for the Rays, who have lost three in a row. James Shields (5-5) allowed four runs and 10 hits in 6 1-3 innings.
Blue Jays 9, Rangers 0
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Brian Tallet and two relievers combined for a two-hitter, Adam Lind homered and the Blue Jays beat the Rangers.
Tallet (4-3) went seven innings to match the longest start of his career. The lefty walked two, struck out three and retired the last eight batters he faced to win for the second time in three starts. Dirk Hayhurst and B.J. Ryan each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Doug Mathis (0-1) gave up five runs and seven hits over five innings in his first start of the season. The right-hander replaced Brandon McCarthy, who was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade.
