MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Brian Gay shot a 4-under 66 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead over Bryce Molder and Robert Allenby in the suspended second round of the St. Jude Classic, leaving Phil Mickelson six strokes back at TPC Southwind.
Gay, who opened with a 64, had a 10-under 130 total. Molder shot a 63, and Allenby was 5 under for the day and 8 under overall with three holes to play in the round that was stopped because of thunderstorms that had tornado sirens wailing.
Woody Austin (66) and Guy Boris (66) finished at 7 under, and two-time tournament champion David Toms was 7 under with four holes to play.
Mickelson, playing his first tournament since wife Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer, was 2 under for the round and 4 under overall with three holes remaining. Seventy-eight players were unable to finish the round.
John Daly, returning to the PGA Tour after a six-month suspension, followed his opening 72 with a 68 to finish at even par, leaving him in danger of missing the cut when the rest of the players finish the round Saturday.
LPGA Championship
HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (AP) - Anna Nordqvist made a 36-foot birdie putt on the final hole to break a tie with Nicole Castrale and take the lead in the LPGA Championship.
Nordqvist, a rookie from Sweden who played at Arizona State, began the day in second place - one stroke behind Castrale in the major championship. Starting on No. 10, Nordqvist birdied three of the first eight holes before losing momentum.
She was 2 over during a nine-hole stretch before making her 11th birdie of the tournament, on No. 9, to move to 8-under 136 at Bulle Rock.
Castrale stumbled at the outset and charged to the finish while shooting 72.
Katherine Hull (69) and Lindsey Wright (68) were 6 under.
Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa was five strokes behind Nordqvist following a 69 that included four birdies and several near misses. Michelle Wie was even par after a 74.
