SACRAMENTO - A 70-year-old woman who was struck by lightning in Plumas County earlier this month has died of her injuries.

University of California, Davis Medical Center spokeswoman Sandy Sagen said Monday that Maryann Heald died last Thursday.

Heald was sent to the Sacramento hospital on June 4 after being struck by lightning as she walked across her yard carrying an umbrella during an electrical storm.

Plumas County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ken Nelson said then that all the fabric was burned off her umbrella. It happened at Heald's home near Portola, about 90 miles northwest of Carson City.
