(AP) - State Sen. Warren Hardy, R-Las Vegas, said Tuesday he's resigning to spend more time in his role as head of a builders' association - a role that led to an ethics complaint against him.

Hardy, who was cleared in the ethics case in a landmark state Supreme Court ruling this year, said he needed to cut costs at the Associated Builders and Contractors by ending lobbying and consulting contracts and doing the work himself.

The two-term senator is submitting his resignation to Gov. Jim Gibbons. No replacement is likely to be named unless a special legislative session has to be called between now and the 2010 elections.
