Donald Hill's truck after it rolled 100-feet down a steep embankment on Geiger Grade this morning. Hill sustained minor injuries.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says a Carson City man is lucky to be alive after crashing his pickup truck down a mountain cliff.
NHP spokesman Chuck Allen says 44-year-old Donald Hill was traveling on State Route 341 toward Virginia City and pulling a small trailer Tuesday just after 10 a.m. when his Ford Ranger pickup veered off the highway and down a steep embankment north of the summit.
Investigators say the truck rolled about 100 feet before coming to rest on its wheels in a stand of pine trees. They say the trees prevented the truck from rolling farther down the mountain.
"Mr. Hill is very lucky not to have sustained more serious injuries based upon the dynamics of the crash," said Allen.
Hill was able to climb out of the truck and crawled to the highway.
He was taken by ambulance to a Reno hospital with only minor injuries.
The south bound tlane was closed for about 90 minutes.
