Douglas man dies after beating

MINDEN - Four people - including two juveniles - were jailed on charges of open murder after allegedly beating a bicyclist on Sunday who died the following day.

Gardnerville residents Anthony Sie Gomez, 30, and Jason Waugh, 28, along with Jimmy Holman, 15, and Alex Vail, 15, are each being held in the Douglas County Jail without bail.

Douglas County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jim Halsey said Terrence Howell, 54, was riding his bicycle in the area of El Dorado Avenue and Apollo Drive in Gardnerville when he was attacked.

"Howell was confronted by two male adults and two male juveniles who jumped him and repeatedly hit and kicked him," Halsey said in a news release.

When police arrived the assailants were gone, and Howell, a Gardnerville resident, opted to drive himself to the hospital where he was treated and released, said Halsey.

The following day, Howell returned to the Carson Valley Medical Center and was then transported to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center where he died Monday afternoon, Halsey said.

He said the cause of death is believed to be from internal injuries due to blunt force trauma. Results of an autopsy performed Tuesday were not immediately available.

District Attorney Mark Jackson said the juveniles would be tried as adults.

Under Nevada law, juveniles are automatically certified as adults because murder is not considered a delinquent act.

The four are to appear today before East Fork Justice Jim EnEarl.
