Members of the money committees were warned by staff Monday to expect revenue projections to be reduced again when the Economic Forum meets in May.
"I believe we will have problems on both sales and gaming," said Fiscal Analyst Gary Ghiggeri. "When the Economic Forum meets May 1 they will probably reduce projections on that."
The forum already has reduced its projected revenues 8.6 percent for this fiscal year compared to fiscal 2008's actual collections.
Ghiggeri told the joint Senate Finance/Assembly Ways and Means subcommittee that tax collections based on December's taxable sales were down 17.1 percent from the same month a year ago. For the first six months of Fiscal 2009, he said, sales tax collections are down 7.7 percent.
According to the report Ghiggeri presented to lawmakers, gross gaming tax collections are in even worse shape. Collections based on December's casino reports were down 22.4 percent from a year ago and down 16.3 percent for the first seven months of Fiscal 2009.
According to the report, taxable sales are down 7.4 percent this fiscal year in Clark and 12.1 percent in Washoe County.
Carson City was below the same period last fiscal year by 13.4 percent and Douglas County 12.1 percent. That is a difference of $64 million for Carson and $45.4 million for Douglas.
For the state as a whole, the difference in total taxable sales is more than $1.8 billion, three quarters of that total in Clark County.
Total gaming win for the state is down by $912.5 million for the first half of the fiscal year, $777.6 million of that in Clark County.
Washoe County casinos have reported $84 million less in total win for that period than in the same period last fiscal year.
Carson Valley Area, which includes valley portions of Carson City and Douglas County, was down 9.1 percent, a difference of $6.5 million. South Lake Tahoe reported a 10.9 percent decrease " $21.6 million.
