Jenny Mital, 17, is organizing an environmental fair for her senior project this year.
"The Carson City area is lacking in Earth Day events," she said. "It really benefits the community to have information about green living."
The fair, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday in the school's big gym, will feature booths sponsored by local organizations to give information about the Earth and Earth-friendly living.
The high school's Environmental Club will collect used cell phones to be recycled. Activities for children will include "edible aquifers" made of ice cream.
The senior project was incorporated into the curriculum nine years ago at the high school. As part of senior English, students are required to complete a three-part assignment that includes a research paper about the subject, an actual project related to the topic, preparing a portfolio and an oral presentation to a panel of community members.
About 400 projects will be presented next month. Members of the community interested in helping judge the projects should call project coordinator Darlene Nevin, 283-1945.
Presentations will be April 30 and May 1.
