The alarm of fire startled our citizens yesterday was caused by the partial burning of the roof of a small building near Cavanaugh's bakery. A well-applied bucket of water did the business.

A Piece of Luck. Joe Platt, pioneer merchant, upon his return from San Francisco was informed by his children that he had won the big prize lottery in this town. He took a look at his tickets and held up the lucky number. He is happy and many of his friends are congratulating him on his good fortune. Ticket called for $3,750.

70 Years Ago

More WPA Payments for Food. The government's new plan for distributing food to relief clients is being worked out and would increase the benefits now paid but would compel recipients to spend at least half of their income for food. Many relief families now spend too little for food. Under the new program they would be forced to increase their food expenditures to the point required for minimum health standards.

50 Year Ago

Andy Gotelli buys Chevrolet agency from Ike Helgren. The transaction will give Gotelli Pontiac the Chevrolet car and truck line. Gotelli has been a resident of Carson City since 1939. He received the local Pontiac dealership in 1944 an with the addition of the Chevrolet line.

The Eagles are returning to Lahontan. The birds returned to their nests on the Silver Springs side of the reservoir. Larry Neel, non-game biologist for the Nevada division of Wildlife, said some observant visitors confirmed two breeding eagles had returned. He urged people to give them plenty of space.
