A fundraiser Friday night at the Governor's Mansion will benefit Cameron Hardy, a Carson City teen whose battle with leukemia motivated more than 400 people in June to be tested to become possible bone marrow donors.
From 6 to 8 p.m. in the Nevada Room, guests can enjoy live music from Carson City's ragtime band, The Hot Two Plus One, and participate in an auction called by the Rockin' Rev. Ken Haskins of donated gift certificates and items from local businesses.
Though no bone marrow match was found for Cameron, the Carson High graduate went to U.C. Davis Medical Center to undergo a cord-blood transfusion in September and has been there ever since.
According to older sister Chelsea Hardy, Cameron, 18, was readmitted into the hospital from a recovery house three weeks ago because of complications.
All the while, Cameron's mother Michele Lynn has been by her son's side. Chelsea, 22, has moved back into her mother's home to stay with her younger siblings, Cailey, 15; Trenton, 8; and Tristan, 10. With the help of their church, The Warehouse, Chelsea is holding down the fort, she said.
But the cost of the mortgage is more than she can afford, and with her mother not working, the family is at risk of losing their home.
By Wednesday, 60 tickets had been sold to Friday's event. Chelsea said 100 more are available.
To purchase a ticket call Chelsea or Amy Clemens at 841-4033 or stop in the offices of Waddell & Reed at 3208 Goni Rd. Unit 183.
