Former Nevada Appeal photographer Rick Gunn spent nearly three years bicycling around the world, and now is sharing stories and photos from that journey.
Western Nevada College presents Rick Gunn: Soulcycler, Words and Images From a 25,811 Mile Bicycle Journey Around the World.
Those who could not get tickets to his first presentation in November can attend the presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Marlette Hall in the Cedar Building.
His presentation combines 350 breathtaking photos from 33 countries, set to music, accompanied by a selection of uniquely emotional stories from around the globe.
Inspired by a series of formative experiences during his childhood, Gunn delivers a front-row seat for the pursuit of his lifelong dream of cycling the planet.
A $10 donation is suggested.
Gunn, 44, quit his job as a photographer for the Nevada Appeal and started his journey from the Golden Gate Bridge on July 1, 2005.
Thirty-three countries, 25,811 miles and 34 months later, he returned to his South Lake Tahoe home.
Eventually, he'd like to take his shows nationwide, as well as finish a book about his travels.
He encourages those who attend to do their own traveling.
"About 80 percent of Americans don't have a passport," he said. "They don't travel. How do they shape their opinions of the world?"
Once this book and project are complete, he said, he will look for smaller projects to work on in places like Iran and Darfur.
In the meantime, though, he still makes time for fun, which includes riding his bike almost daily.
