A Carson City man will be sent to a Reno psychiatric hospital to determine if he's competent to stand trial for the alleged molestation of an Alzheimer's patient.

"I gave the lady the shirt off my back. What did I do?" said a heavily bearded Troy Enloe. "I'm here for no reason."

The hearing Tuesday was originally to determine if there was enough evidence to try Enloe, 36, on gross misdemeanor charges of attempted abuse of an elderly person and open and gross lewdness.

But Assistant Carson City District Attorney Gerald Gardner told Judge John Tatro that the defense questioned Enloe's competency and the state had to allow Enloe to be evaluated.

On Feb. 25, Enloe allegedly entered the Carson Nursing and Rehabilitative Center, 2898 Highway 50 East.

The criminal complaint alleges that Enloe went into the room of an 82-year-old Alzheimer's patient, removed articles of her clothing "and/or did kiss the victim on the face and lips ... and did remove his own pants telling the victim he loved her."

According to the arrest report, Enloe told employees of the center that he intended to take the woman to dinner. After workers determined he was not related to the victim, he was escorted from the building.

Before leaving, he allegedly told them "not to eat Oregon mushrooms and don't hang out with mean people," the report states.

The victim's visibly upset granddaughter attended Tuesday's hearing.

"I just want them to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law," she said. "We put her in a facility for her health and safety and this happens."

Enloe has a fairly extensive criminal history, dating back to at least 2002 when he scaled a razor wire fence and escaped from Storey County Jail, where he was held for possession of stolen property.

After stealing a construction truck in Mound House, Enloe was arrested a week later in Oregon. He was convicted of grand larceny. He also has a felony drug conviction.

In September, Enloe was found passed out in the front yard of a home on Robinson Street. When he refused to leave, Enloe was arrested. He pleaded guilty to being a drunken pedestrian and served a week in jail.

Enloe will next appear in Carson City District Court on March 24 where an order will be entered to have him admitted into Lakes Crossing in Reno. Enloe remains in the Carson City Jail on $250,000 bail.
