Devils 3, Flames 2

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) " Martin Brodeur moved within two wins of tying Patrick Roy's NHL career record, making 35 saves in the New Jersey Devils' 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.

Jamie Langenbrunner, Brian Rolston and Zach Parise scored and the Devils killed off six of seven power plays in helping Brodeur post victory No. 549. New Jersey tied the franchise record with its eighth straight home victory.

Brodeur, a four-time Vezina Trophy winner, could tie Roy's mark in his native Montreal on Saturday, provided he and the Devils beat Phoenix at home on Thursday.

Calgary newcomer Olli Jokinen's third goal in four games could not prevent the Flames from losing their third straight game. Curtis Glencross scored with less than a second to play for the final goal. It came on the Flames' final power play.

The Devils earned their 10th win in 13 games, avoiding their first losing streak in more than two months.

Canadiens 4, Oilers 3, OT

MONTREAL (AP) " Saku Koivu scored twice, including a power-play goal 1:40 into overtime and Montreal celebrated Bob Gainey's return to coaching with a win.

Koivu deflected Mathieu Schneider's point shot past Dwayne Roloson for the winner after he tied it with 4:35 left in regulation on a goal that required a lengthy video review.

Referee David Banfield, who ultimately confirmed the goal to the delight of the sold-out Bell Centre crowd, pointed to the net repeatedly when the puck deflected up off Oilers defenseman Steve Staios' stick on Andrei Kostitsyn's centering pass and caromed in past Roloson off Koivu, who was driving hard to the net.

Flyers 5, Sabres 2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) " Jeff Carter scored two goals in the third period, Scott Hartnell also had a pair and Philadelphia beat Buffalo.

Martin Biron made 27 saves and Mike Richards added a power-play goal for the Flyers, who strengthened their hold on fourth place in the Eastern Conference with their second straight win and eighth in 12 games.

Maxim Afinogenov and Jochen Hecht scored for Buffalo, which is locked in a tight race for a playoff berth. The Sabres are 10th in the East, but came in only three points out of a playoff spot and four points out of fifth.

Penguins 4, Panthers 3, SO

PITTSBURGH (AP) " Evgeni Malkin scored Pittsburgh's first goal and then decided the shootout for the Penguins, who rallied from two goals down in the third period and beat Florida for their seventh consecutive victory.

The winning streak is the Penguins' longest since they won eight in a row from Dec. 23, 2007, through Jan. 10, 2008.

Kris Letang and Malkin each got the puck past Tomas Vokoun as the Penguins won their second shootout in three days.

Sidney Crosby scored the tying goal and assisted on NHL scoring leader Malkin's 30th during Pittsburgh's ninth win in 11 home games.

Blue Jackets 2, Bruins 0

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) " Steve Mason earned his NHL-best ninth shutout of the season, stopping 35 shots and making Raffi Torres' third-period goal stand up in Columbus' win.

Torres broke the scoreless deadlock 6:35 into the period, and Rick Nash scored a seeing-eye, empty-net goal in the final minute to clinch the win.

Sharks 5, Wild 4, OT

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) " Christian Ehrhoff's overtime goal sailed over Minnesota goalie Niklas Backstrom's stick and salvaged a badly needed victory for San Jose.

Owen Nolan scored two goals in the last six-plus minutes of regulation against his old team to tie the game for Minnesota, which had to be happy with a point after falling behind so big early on a rough night by the All-Star Backstrom " who stopped only 18 shots.

The Sharks ended a four-game losing streak.

Red Wings 3, Coyotes 2, OT

DETROIT (AP) " Johan Franzen's goal 3:35 into overtime gave Detroit a win. Franzen skated across the high slot and beat Ilya Bryzgalov for his 27th goal.

Valtteri Filppula had a goal and an assist, and Brian Rafalski also scored for the Red Wings. Franzen added an assist on Filppula's goal, and Ty Conklin made 23 saves.

Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan scored for Phoenix, which has lost six of seven. Bryzgalov stopped 40 shots.

Capitals 2, Predators 1, OT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) " Sergei Fedorov scored 2:20 into overtime to give Washington a victory over Nashville.

The Capitals snapped a season-worst, four-game losing streak while the Predators dropped their second straight after winning six in a row.

From the right corner, Alexander Semin passed the puck to Viktor Kozlov on the right boards. Kozlov moved it into the low slot to Fedorov, who slid in a backhander for his eighth goal of the season.

Maple Leafs 3, Islanders 2, OT

TORONTO (AP) " Mikhail Grabovski's first goal in 18 games gave Toronto an overtime victory over New York.

The Islanders blew a chance to clear the puck from their zone and, after two teammates had whacks at the puck, Grabovski fired the puck in from the middle of the zone 50 seconds into overtime. The shot beat goalie Joey MacDonald, who was out of position after making a save.

Lee Stempniak and Alexei Ponikarovsky also scored for the Leafs.

Kyle Okposo and Blake Comeau scored for New York, which had won four of five.

Blues 5, Stars 2

ST. LOUIS (AP) " David Perron had two goals, and St. Louis scored on three of its first eight shots in a victory over Dallas.

St. Louis jumped to 11th place in the Western Conference with 68 points. Dallas stayed in 10th, tied with Minnesota with 70 points.

Perron scored only two goals in his previous 11 games.

Thrashers 3, Avalanche 0

DENVER (AP) " Kari Lehtonen had 35 saves in earning his third shutout of the season and Atlanta beat Colorado.

Lehtonen's 14th NHL shutout helped the Thrashers improve to 8-4-1 in their past 13 games. The surge includes a two-game season sweep of the Avalanche, who lost for the seventh time in eight games. It was the eighth time this season Colorado was shut out.

Todd White and Zach Bogosian staked Atlanta to a 2-0 lead and Rich Peverley added an empty-netter to seal the victory.
