Using the slogan, "Trim Carson City's waste as you trim your waist," volunteers from the Carson City Chamber of Commerce business community will be sprucing up our city the second Saturday of every month in an effort to keep the city and parks clean.
The Chamber has partnered with the Carson City Parks & Recreation Department to assist in keeping community parks clean and tended. The first group of volunteers will meet 8:30 a.m Saturday for coffee and doughnuts at the corner of Northridge and New Ridge to clean up Lone Mountain Park that fronts Roop Street. This area is always full of litter and the trails need to be rehabilitated.
About 20 business volunteers, 13 of whom are from Greater Nevada Credit Union, and two parks personnel are volunteering their Saturday morning. The volunteers understand that a clean Carson City is an important quality of life issue along with establishing pride in a clean community.
Rusty Duncan, branch manager of GNCU's Second Street branch said, "Greater Nevada Credit Union prides itself in giving back to the community it serves. Our employees receive great satisfaction in extending their personal time for the Carson City Cleanup because of the positive impact it makes on our locality."
Phillip Harrison, Carson City chairman of the board, adds, "We need to keep our community clean and litter free to show that we have pride in our city. We will not be able to attract new businesses or residents to a community that is not litter free."
Scott Fahrenbruch, Carson City Parks and Recreation Department director of operations is appreciative of the assistance.
"We really appreciate the efforts of the Chamber and their volunteers, and their dedication to our community in helping us keep our city clean and attractive benefits everyone," he said.
"Because of them we can utilize our manpower and resources in other areas to make our limited operating budgets stretch even further."
Carson City Parks & Recreation will select the site to be cleaned each second Saturday morning and the Chamber will coordinate the event.
Interested volunteers should contact Jana Farley at the Chamber at 882-1565.
