In honor of Pi Day " celebrating the mathematical constant 3.14 " the Carson City School District Kids in Transition Program will sell pie by the slice.

Girl Scouts from Troop 399 will join with Kids in Transition Director Jeannette Famoso selling the pastries from noon-3 p.m. at Comma Coffee to raise money for the program. There also will be some free, fun Pi Day activities.

It's estimated that there are anywhere from 370 to 450 homeless children in Carson City. Kids in Transition provides them with school supplies, clothing, shoes and other things they need to be successful in school as well as working with the children and their families to ensure access to needed services.

"Contributions from the community are a very important part of our budget. This year community support is needed more than ever" Famoso said. "Budgets are tight, and the need is increasing."
